Dr. Cosmetis is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY24117) in private practice in San Diego, CA. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. Having a strong desire to help others in a healthcare setting, she went on to earn her Master of Arts in Psychology and Doctorate of Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, an American Psychological Association (APA) fully accredited program in San Diego.
Dr. Cosmetis has worked in a variety of clinical settings, beginning with New Vistas Crisis Center, a short-term residential program for adults in crisis. She completed pre-doctoral internships at Catholic Charities and Jewish Family Services. Both are non-profit organizations, which provide outpatient counseling to the entire community, regardless of religious affiliation. She has worked at a residential eating disorder and substance abuse treatment program, in a private grade school, and a functional restoration program for patients with chronic pain. She completed her postdoctoral training at Douglas Young Biopsychosocial Center, working as the Lead Clinician for the Transitional Age Youth program, specializing in treating young adults.
Since becoming licensed, Dr. Cosmetis has received specialized training from the UCSD Center for Mindfulness in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention, which are group therapies using mindfulness meditation as a tool for developing greater self compassion and breaking out of habitual patterns of behavior. Dr. Cosmetis also recently attended an intensive training in the Gottman Method of couples counseling.
Dr. Cosmetis provides individual, couples, and group psychotherapy in her private practice in Old Town San Diego. She works with with young adults, adults, and older adults. She keeps up with the latest research in her field by maintaining memberships in the American Psychological Association and the San Diego Psychological Association, and by regularly participating in continuing education. She also serves as a co-chair of the Mindfulness Committee and a member of the LGBT Committee of the San Diego Psychological Association.
Balance is very important to Dr. Cosmetis. Thus, she has several hobbies that serve as her personal stress reduction and relaxation, including: long distance running, practicing yoga, cooking, socializing, reading, meditating, watching movies, and traveling. She is also a volunteer with Girls on the Run, an after-school program for adolescent girls, teaching them important lessons in healthy self esteem and lifestyle choices.
